Read an article

An article page shows the text with its figures and formulas, then its versions, its reviews and its comments. A few aids make reading easier; none of them needs a wallet.

A thin bar at the top of the window shows how far through the article you are. When you come back to an article you had started, a small box offers Continue where you left off, naming the section you were reading; Continue takes you there. It is remembered in this browser only, for the same version, for 90 days, and forgotten once you reach the end.

After the article, Related on Cabdell lists the articles that cite it, those it cites and others of its field, each once; All opens the full lists of citations. To hear of what happens to an article, follow it.

Point at a link to another Cabdell article (or move to it with the keyboard) and a card shows its title, authors, type, status, seal and the start of its abstract, so that you know what it is before you open it. It works in the article and in its reviews and comments. A link to an article that does not exist says so.

  • Code blocks have a Copy button in their corner (on a phone it is always visible).
  • A formula copies its LaTeX source when you click it, ready to paste into your own text or a review.
  • A figure opens full size with its description when you click it; click anywhere or press Escape to close it.

When an article has more than one version, the version number next to its title, Compare versions and the changes link of each version in Versions open a page that compares two versions:

  • the text (index.md, header included) line by line, removed lines on red and added lines on green, with the words that changed marked inside a line; the whole text shows every line instead of only the changes and a few lines around them;
  • the files of assets/ that were added, removed or changed, with their sizes.

Two menus choose any two versions. A review that was written on an earlier version says so (“on v1”) with a link to what changed since: the reviewer, and anyone else, can see whether its points were taken up. Each version stays readable at its CID.

Share, on an article, a profile, a list or a journal, opens the page’s link with a QR code: a phone camera pointed at it opens the page, which suits a talk, a poster or a CV. Download the QR code saves it as an image; on a phone, Share via… opens the phone’s own share menu. The code is made in your browser.

PDF / Print prints the article, or saves it as PDF from your browser’s print dialog; see save as PDF or print.

Theme, in the sidebar (or the footer on tablets and phones), offers System (your device’s light or dark setting), Light, Dark and Papyrus: warm parchment and sepia ink, with articles, reviews and comments set in a book face, for long reading. Every theme keeps text at the contrast the WCAG asks for. The choice stays in this browser only.
